WHERE WE ARE NOT | Khrystyna Volokh
03.04 - 02.05.2018
'WHERE WE ARE NOT' is a series of 'aspirational landscapes', an imaginary trip around the world to places which the artist has never visited personally. Khrystyna Volokh's primary interest is the colour dynamic and the way that colour can be used to convey the emotional and the immaterial.
In 2017, an estimated 1 000 000 Ukrainians* have left their native country to seek a better life. How do they imagine their future homeland? The exhibition title echoes the expression, "Добре там, де нас нема" ('The grass is greener on the other side'), immortalised in Okean Elzy's hit single (and album) Tam, de nas nema that celebrates its 20th anniversary this year.
Khrystyna Volokh (b. 1995) is a young contemporary artist from the city of Drohobych, Lviv region. She gained her first experience of painting at her father Igor Volokh's art studio. In 2015, she graduated from the Ivan Trush Lviv State College of Decorative and Applied Arts (BA Fine Art). Since 2016, the artist has participated in group exhibitions alongside other artists from her region. 'WHERE WE ARE NOT' is Khrystyna Volokh's first solo exhibition.
