Fine art, sculpture & photography in the heart of Kyiv since 1988
MY UKRAINIAN DIARY | Markus Nieden
14.11 - 28.11.2017
Presented here are works that the artist created during his many trips to Ukraine since 2003. Nieden counts himself among the followers of the Neue Sachlichkeit (New Objectivity) movement, which first emerged in 1920s Germany as a reaction against the prevalent Expressionist and Abstract movements. It embraced realism in an attempt to bring art back to depicting objective reality. Nieden’s works are psychological portraits of places and the people that inhabit them, both incisive and humane.
Markus Nieden is a German artist, performer, theatre director and writer. He was born in Kehl, a town in south-western Germany located on the river Rhine, directly opposite the French city of Strasbourg. In 1989 he graduated from the Fine Arts Academy of Karlsruhe. His works can be found in the collections of the Karlsruhe City Gallery, ZKM Center for Art and Media, and the Karlsruhe City Council, and L-Bank Stuttgart, as well as private collections in Germany, Switzerland, Norway, Italy, Greece, and the US.
